This book is adapted from articles published over the last several years in PastFinder, the monthly newsletter of the Silicon Valley Computer Genealogy Group, previously known as the Silicon Valley PAF Users Group. The group was formed to help users take advantage of computer and technology advances becoming available in the 1980s. Now, two decades later, genealogists and family historians can access hardware, software, and online services we couldn’t even imagine when the group was first formed. It takes a special gift to publish an engaging newsletter month in and month out, year after year. The articles need to be relevant and thought provoking. There must be enough helpful information to keep people re-subscribing time after time. We are very lucky to have experienced writers who are deeply entrenched in family history research, who can relate to the issues that readers need to understand, and who can help stay on top of the rapidly evolving technology of our research processes.
